Beyond the issue of price, I can’t understand why anyone would want to use an ugly PC. The aesthetics of the Tiger operating system are just too beautiful. I know, it’s just a computer. But I look at this thing all day. Why not have some beauty in your life, I ended up having to use my son Dual G4 tower at home, and her laptop when I could for comfy web surfing at home. I suppose something like Bloglines would have helped me here, but I could never trust I would find the article I read earlier in the day when it came time to blog. Getting everything onto this laptop has helped organize and energize all of my computer endeavors, which are many.
One time we almost lost all our family photos. We’re very happy with the new MacBooks
All this to say, this is an intense time of giving up some old things to make room for the new. Which is very hard for me to do. More on that later. But isn’t this the sexiest computer design you’ve ever seen
im enjoy my macbook

Sleep: A Surprising

sleep2.jpg

Makes sense. Physiologically, anything that increases inflammation or contributes to chronic inflammation is going to negatively affect the cardiovascular system. Sleep is, hands down, the body’s most effective way of digesting excess stress hormones from your day. If you don’t get enough sleep, your stress hormones stay elevated and this increases inflammation throughout your body. This causes your arteries to narrow and even constrict, which results in higher blood pressure.

Not getting enough sleep has become an epidemic in our society. So has obesity. And these two are connected. Obese people are more likely to develop sleep apnea than their thinner counterparts. When you have sleep apnea, you don’t get enough sleep, and the quality of your sleep is often poor. Sleep apnea has been shown to obstruct the flow of oxygen to the body. And this condition has been connected to an increased risk of stroke, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes in obese people
The health benefits of living in harmony with our body’s wisdom are too numerous to count. Sleep is a prime example. In addition to the benefits already mentioned, getting enough sleep has also been shown to help keep weight down.It also helps promote brain health and an upbeat mood. So sleep when you’re tired and don’t feel guilty

Ways to Avoid Procrastination

Ways to Avoid Procrastination

Procrastination can be a HUGE problem for any individual that is attempting to prepare for a particular exam, interview, or other similar situation. Sometimes we get lazy, get distracted by the computer, t.v., cellphones, and etc…

We have to put all those things aside for the period we are trying to really focus. If necessary turn off the computer, unplug the tv, and get your head in the game!

Now these tips work very well when you apply them correctly when preparing for a test or assignment.

Anticipate future assignments. You will find that most instructors will stick to a certain pattern. You may instructed to read a chapter and then answer the review questions at the end of the chapter. Be sure to

ask your instructor which chapter you will cover.

Nothing is worse than doing an assignment and finding out that chapter will be skipped.

Imagine all that work for NOTHING!

Don’t put assignments off until the last minute.
Once you know what the assignment is, get started on it.

Procrastination will tempt you to put these assignments off until the last minute, but don’t give into that temptation.
Do your work early in the week and you’ll be able to hang out with your friends later in the week rather than staying in and doing your mountain of homework.

Do hard assignments first. It’s sometimes easy to get started on assignments that are easy or are of interest to you. It’s also easy to procrastinate on harder assignments and put them off until you absolutely have to do them.

You will rush through these assignments that should have been worked on for at least a couple days and end up with grades that are lower than you expected.

Note Taking tips e ideas

Note Taking tips e ideas

Note taking is a skill that can help you do well on all your schoolwork, including tests and homework. Many people expect to jot down every single word the teacher says or writes on the board. Depending on their teaching
style or how fast you can write it is important to have a good strategy when jotting these things down. Here are some tips that have really helped me throughout my high school and college experience.

*-Use a three-ring binder instead of a spiral or bound book. Pages can be easily removed for reviewing.
Handouts can be inserted into your notes for cross-referencing. You can insert your own out-of-class notes in the correct order
*-Instructors will frequently make comments like, “This is an important concept.” Or, “Make sure you understand this.” These are direct clues that this will more than likely be on an exam. Highlighting these notes will help remind you later that this is definitely something you need to know.
*-Start each new lecture on a new page, and date and number each page. The sequence of material is important.
*-Make your notes as brief as possible. “Never use a sentence when you can use a phrase, or a phrase when you can use a word.
(Develop a system of abbreviations and symbols you can use wherever possible).
*-Note all unfamiliar vocabulary or concepts you don’t understand. This reminds you to look them up later.

Tips for a First Date

Tips for a First Date

A first date can be an amazing adventure or a disasterous deadend. Well it all depends on the conversation that is involved. You have to know exactly what to say on the first date and sometimes it can be hard.

There are some things you should definitely save for a later time. Just stay calm and be yourself. First off, DO NOT spend any amount of time talking about your ex on the first date.

The first date is for you to get to know each other, not for you to have a willing audience to bash your ex. Avoid talking about family problems, he/she is interested in you not your family problems at the moment, that topic is for a another time. If your date asks you about your interests and you spend all night talking about all the things you hate, you can bet that there won’t be a second date.

Keep your comments and attitude positive. You can spend time bonding over the things you hate after you have gotten comfortable with each other.

Remember don’t be shy be yourself, show some confidence. If he/she see’s that you’re comfortable around them they’ll losen up as well.

They’ll see your laid back and chill and you guys will be talking for hours.

Make sure there are no akward moments.

Don’t keep quiet half the time, say something! Shoot some random topics, but not too random to a point they’re uncomfortable. *

One more thing ALWAYS REMEMBER to MAINTAIN EYE CONTACT!

Causes of Split Ends

split_endsddbtkh.jpg

Applys mostly for girls, but guys this can apply for some with longer hair as well. Split ends happen when the protective cuticle has been stripped away from the ends of hair fibers and are more likely to develop in dry or brittle hair, and typical causes of damage include excessive dying or vigorous brushing. Here are some reasons why we have split ends and what we should do to avoid them:

1.Excessive use of hot styling tools (irons, hot curlers, blow dryers, hot combs).
2.Overuse of chemical treatments like relaxers, perms, & hair coloring products.
3.Use of inferior styling tools that rip or snag hair. Such as, cheap synthetic brushes or combs, brush rollers, etc.
4.Environmental damage from heat, cold, wind and other climate issues.
5.Lack of routine maintenance. Such as regular trimming.
6.Improper detangling techniques. Part your hair and brush/comb through each section.
7.Overwashing. 2 x is enough *Lather Rinse Repeat*
8.Use of inferior hair care products.
9.Excessive use of styling products such as gels, waxes and sprays.

A Proper way to do Push Ups

A Proper way to do Push Ups

Push Ups is a great way to tone and gain strength for your body. But, if you’re not doing them the right way you’re not gonna get anywhere and you’ll feel massive pain after. Here’s the proper way to do push ups anywhere. So there’s no need for a gym, you can do it at home!

First, Lie chest-down with your hands at shoulder level, palms flat on the floor and slightly more than shoulder-width apart, your feet together and parallel to each other.

Second, Look forward rather than down at the floor. The first contact you make with the floor with any part of the face should be your chin, not your nose.

Third, Keep your legs straight and your toes tucked under your feet.

Forth, Straighten your arms as you push your body up off the floor. Keep your palms fixed at the same position and keep your body straight. Try not to bend or arch your upper or lower back as you push up.

Fifth, Exhale as your arms straighten out.

Sixth, Lower your body slowly towards the floor. Bend your arms and keep your palms in fixed position. Keep body straight and feet together.

THEN REPEAT!

How To Reset Your iPod

How To Reset Your iPod

Did that iPOD of yours keep freezing?! If your iPod is frozen or won’t turn on, it may be because iPod is paused or the Hold switch is in the locked into it’s position. If that’s the case then a lock symbol appears on the screen. Slide the Hold switch to the unlocked position and check the screen. If that’s not the case then follow these steps:

1-Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

2-Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

3- If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod because it’s not cooperating, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.

*If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn’t set to go to sleep.

If these steps don’t work then have it checked out.

How to Increase Your Metabolism

How to Increase Your Metabolism

- Make sure when you hop out of bed to eat a good breakfast EVERY SINGLE DAY! When you don’t, your body goes into starvation mode, so your metabolism slows to a crawl to conserve energy.Remember the heartier your first meal is, the better!

- Caffeine stimulates your central nervous system by increasing your heart rate and breathing. But avoid SODA! Cause you’re trying to stay in shape too right?!

- Pick protein for lunch. Cramming protein into every meal helps build and maintain lean muscle mass. Muscle burns more calories than fat does.

- Brew up some green tea. The brew contains a plant compound called ECGC, which promotes fat burning. People who’ve consumed the equivalent of three to five cups a day for 12 weeks decreased their body weight by 4.6 percent!

- Calcium helps your body metabolize fat more efficiently by increasing the rate at which it gets rid of fat as waste. (Yes poopy waste!) Have an afternoon snack, like some fat free yogurt or a glass of milk.

- Grab some metal. Women lose iron during their period every month. That can throw a wrench into your metabolic machine, because iron helps carry oxygen to your muscles. If your levels run low, muscles don’t get enough O2, your energy tanks, and your metabolism sputters. Stock up on iron-fortified cereals, beans, and dark leafy greens like spinach, bok choy, and broccoli.

- When you work out mix things up with intervals. You’re always looking for a way to shorten your workout, right? Well, step up your intensity and you’ll burn the same number of calories or more in less time. Slowing things down increases the breakdown of muscle tissue — yeah, it sounds bad, but all that damage you’re incurring is actually a good thing. The repair process pumps up your metabolism for as long as 72 hours after your session. So take it slow!

The Pros e Cons of Baby Shampoos

The Pros e Cons of Baby Shampoos

Are you worried about baby shampoos you buy and are not sure if they may cause irretation or infection for you infant?

Many baby doctors recommend a special kind of baby shampoo during the first years of an infant’s life because baby shampoos generally don’t contain the sulfates that are used in most adult hair care products.

A relatively unknown danger from traditional baby shampoo is the pH balance.

Some baby shampoos are formulated specifically for babies and are less prone to stinging if they get into the eyes, when they contain a high pH.

They also may cause unnecessary tangling of the baby’s hair. Whether you use a special baby shampoo or some other type of mild shampoo, it is very important that they contain a balanced pH.

The PH FACTOR MUST FALL BETWEEN a 4.5 - 6 range. Many shampoos will list the pH on the bottle. If you are in doubt, you can use Nitrazine paper;which is available at any drug store, if you want to test the actual pH levels. As babies get older they may have a tendency to experience hair damage from hair tangling. Strong shampoos with a high pH of 7.0 or over is more likely to cause hair tangling in babies and younger children.

Say Goodbye to Hat Hair

Say Goodbye to Hat Hair

If you wear a hat to keep warm, and you’re tired of getting hat hair try these tips that will decrease the chances of you getting it.

This flat, matted, staticky messy look, makes us question why we even bother styling it in the first place right

For starters take your hat off every ten minutes to half an hour just for a small little brushing. If any bit of your hair starts to get flat brushing it out will give it more volume.

Don’t use mousse for more volume. That will damp your hair and ask for hat hair. Also avoid wool hats, they are the ENEMY! They stick to your hair like wool sweaters stick to shirts. Go with earmuffs instead! Ask

yourself. Does your hair stand on end when you take off your hat?
The friction created between the material and your hair makes static unavoidable.
particularly clean, and product free.

To ease this electrical charge, stylists suggest by adding a finishing product to your styling routine this will decrease the chances of getting static hair.

The product creates a barrier between the hair and the hat, so when the hat comes off, the hair stays in place.

Now, if your hair is long or you have bangs, before putting on your hat, tie long hair into a loose bun at the nape of the neck. It can be easily removed, and hair still looks pretty. If you have bangs, pull them to the side and secure with a hairpin to keep them from denting or matting.

This will keep the hair looking polished when it’s time to take the hat off.

Why Can’t I Play the Disc I Burned in my CD Player

rippit-the-ogg-frog.pngIf you burn a data disc with music files and it does not play in your portable, home, or car CD player, check the following:

Your CD player may not support playback of data CD or DVD discs. Refer to the CD player’s documentation for details.

The CD might be burned onto media, such as CD-RW, that is not compatible with the CD player. Refer to the CD player’s documentation for details.

Your CD player may not support playback of the type of music files burned on the disc (WMA or MP3). Refer to the CD player’s documentation for details.

The songs might be protected with media usage rights. Other computers may be able to acquire usage rights and play the songs if they have a connection to the Internet, but devices such as portable CD players and car stereos will not be able to acquire those rights, so protected content will be unplayable.

The CD might not have been closed when it was burned. Usually you can resolve this problem by adding more songs to the burn list so you are close to the maximum capacity of the CD. Then, try burning the list again to a new CD.

What Types of CDs or DVDs can I burn

dvdburnertipes.png CD. You can use either a blank CD-R or CD-RW disc for burning in the Player, depending on the type(s) of removable storage that your CD burner supports, and the type of disc that you prefer. Note that not all CD players can play CD-RW discs. You can use the Player to burn the following types of CDs:

Audio CD. Burn music CDs in standard Red Book audio format. Audio CDs can be played in most computers and in home and car CD players that play CD-R and CD-RW discs. You can burn an audio CD from either Windows Media Audio (WMA), MP3, or WAV file formats.

Data CD. A data CD, also called a media CD, can store approximately 700 megabytes (MB) of music or video files. Data CDs are also useful if you want to back up your data files. Keep in mind, however, that some CD players and computers may not be able to play data CDs or some of the file types that can be burned to a data CD.

Data DVD. A single sided, single layered data DVD can store approximately 4.7 gigabytes (GB) of music, video, or data files. The storage capacity of a DVD disc is doubled to 9.4 GB when you use either double sided, single layered or single sided, dual layered discs. The use of a double sided, dual layered disc quadruples the DVD’s storage capacity to 18.8 GB.

The type of recordable DVD disc you would use depends on your DVD burner. Certain DVD burners can only burn to certain types of recordable DVDs. For example, with some DVD burners, you can only record to a DVD+R or DVD+RW or to a DVD-R or DVD-RW. However, other DVD burners will let you burn to all of these recordable DVD types. To determine what types of DVDs your DVD burner can burn, consult the manual that came with your DVD burner.

As long as your DVD burner supports burning to these types of discs, you can burn a DVD in the Player using one of the following types of recordable or re-recordable DVD media: DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, and double layered DVD+R. The Player does not support burning to DVD-RAM discs.

Burning DVD-Audio and DVD-Video discs is not supported in the Player.

How Do You Erase an Already-Burned CD

burn-dvd.jpgIf you want to reuse a CD-RW disc that has files previously “burned” (written) on it, you can erase the contents of the CD-RW disc by inserting the disc into the CD burner, just right-clicking the drive in the Navigation pane, and then clicking Erase disc. (Note that erasing is required before you can burn to a CD-RW disc again.) However, you cannot reuse or erase the contents of a CD-R disc that was previously burned, regardless of how much space was originally left unused.

How Do You Solve This Maclaurin Series

maclaurin_22.gifThe Maclaurin series for f(x) is given by:

1/2! - x^2/4! + x^4/6! - x^8/8! + …+ (-1)^n (x^2n)/ (2n+2)!+ …

a) For what values x does the given series converge?

b) Let g ‘ (x)= 1- x^2 * f(x). Write the Maclaurin series for g’(x), showing the first three nonzero terms and the general term.
c) Write g’(x) in terms of a familiar function without using series. Then write f(x) in terms of same familiar function.
d) Given that g(0)=3, write g(x) in terms of a familiar function without series.

Your 4th term should be x^6/8! not x^8/8!.

a) it converges for all x. For any fixed x this follows by the ratio test, or the alternating series test.
b) multiply the series by x^2 term by term and subtract from 1. You get 1 - x^2/2! + x^4/4! - x^6/6! + … with general term (-1)^n x^(2n)/(2n)!
c) g’(x) = cos(x). f(x) = (1-cos(x)) / x^2
d) integrate cos(x), get sin(x) + C, at 0 this must equal 3, so g(x) = sin(x) + 3.

Gorgeous in Under 4 Minutes

Gorgeous in Under 4 Minutes

Here are a few steps that will give you that simple gorgeous look in just minutes!

Lets start off with the face: Spread on rose water for an initial dose of moisture, then smooth the cream over your face and neck. You’ll get this toned luminous effect after a minute or so. Now for the eyes: Wiggle your liner right into the lashline, all the way around and then draw a cat eyeish wedge that extends from the outer part of your eyes.

To get that full shaped eyebrow: Rub a little of the same liner on your ring finger and glide it over each eyebrow. This will give you a really amazing, faint tint just enough to make your brows look polished and shaped. Finally, swipe on a balm with a bit of color.

Choose a color that will compliment you. Perhaps a Berry Pink, or a Shimmery Color.
Now you’re all done!

Suffering From the Pimple Nightmare?!

Suffering From the Pimple Nightmare?!

Pimples are never wanted and we all want them to disappear. Remember it is always wise to stop the tendency to squeeze, prick or pinch the pimples. You can suffer from infections and severe cases of scarring. You should keep it in mind that a mixture of hormonal activity, bacteria and dead skin causes pimples to appear. You don’t want that, do you? If you are using some medications or treatments, have patience. Pimple treatments are generally a long process. Do not expect to get results in minutes or hours.

You can even try different types of facials depending on your skin type. They cause a pimple to shrink. But, be careful with what you use because it might cause you to break out even more.

Yikes! Some people have said, and this might sound bizzar but toothpaste is another proven method to treat pimple from popping. You apply it just before going to bed, then wake up in the morning to find your pimple considerably smaller and more dried up than it was the earlier night. Ladies wear oil-free makeup whenever possible. These types have less of a tendency to cause the pore buildup that results in blemishes.

How to Build Strong Bones!

dsc6721-main_full1thumbnail.jpg

Orange juice is full of vitamin C, a potent antioxidant that also helps facilitate calcium absorption into the body, a double benefit. So enjoy the fresh nectar of the citrus fruit while you bulk up your bones. YUMMY!

Try to avoid soft drinks.
Soft drinks are hard on your health. It may be satisfying to down a soft drink on a hot day and you may even feel “safe” because you’re drinking the diet kind, avoiding calories so you won’t put on weight. But calories aren’t the only drawback in colas and other carbonated beverages; they can deplete the calcium in your bones, because they contain phosphoric acid, which makes calcium pass out of your system in the urine.

Nothing is as important as the health and safety of moms, dads, moms-to-be and children. And parents can never get enough information and tips
1. Eat healthy. It’s good for you and your baby. Follow the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Also, every woman of childbearing age should consume at least 400 micrograms of folic acid each day.

2. Don’t drink alcohol when you are pregnant or might become pregnant. There is no known safe level of alcohol consumption for pregnant women. Alcohol can affect an unborn baby even before a woman knows that she is pregnant, and the problems caused by prenatal alcohol exposure are lifelong.

3. Get prenatal care early. As soon as you think you may be pregnant, see a healthcare professional for prenatal care. And continue going for prenatal care during your pregnancy

4 Don’t smoke. And don’t allow anyone else to smoke around your baby. Smoking during pregnancy can lead to a low birth weight baby and can reduce your baby’s lung function

5. Breastfeed your baby. Breastfeeding for at least the first six months of life has significant health benefits, and maintain a healthy diet after that. Babies who are exclusively breastfed for six months are less likely to develop ear infections
Place your baby “back to sleep.” A baby should sleep on a firm mattress, on his or her back, with no fluffy pillows or stuffed animals. Following these simple steps can lower the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

Having a Bad Hair Day?

Having a Bad Hair Day?

Here are 2 ways to keep your hair from having a bad hair day

Don’t Overuse Products

If you mix a gel and a silicone shiner, use too much then add hair spray over the top, you’ll get dull looking locks that have a gummy feeling. A small amount of product gives you control. Too much of a product weighs hair down.

Use Rollers Right

Rollers are super popular these days, whether they’re Velcro, hot rollers or self-adhering ones. If you are using unheated rollers, set hair when it is just damp.

Don’t apply any product until hair reaches the damp state; it’ll just take longer to dry. Add a bit of product when hair is barely damp and roll up rollers, positioning largest-diameter ones at the top for maximum volume. Allow them to dry completely (you can speed this with a blow dryer), then unwind rollers carefully. If you use hot rollers, allow them to cool completely before gently unwinding them.

How to Increase Mobile Battery Life

img_8283.jpg

1 - Decrease brightness of the display
If you have an option to decrease the brightness of the display then choose a level which has medium brightness and not too high.

2 - Disable vibration and ringtones
Vibrating alert is a feature that uses a whole lot of battery life, so disable it when you do not need it. It really sucks up battery life fast so do not use it when short of battery life.

3 - Disabling ringtones in an emergency situation is recommended to save a bit of your battery life. Also use low volumes on the ringtones as the louder the ringtone, the shorter the battery life.

4 - Turn phone off when no network
When you are in an area where your mobile provider has no network or the place has cellphone jammers installed, switch off the phone. Your cellphone continuously searches for the signal which uses the battery very fast. This is applicable when you walk through long subway or drive in underground tunnels.

5- Charge and discharge tips
This one is very important in the long run. Many of us tend to charge the battery when it has been used only midway. This is not a healthy for the battery as more charge/discharge cycles on the battery means lower battery life. Charge the battery only when you are low on power. Also it is recommended to fully discharge the battery once a month to ensure its proper functioning.

6 - For Your Battery
It is important to take care of your battery. It is very important to keep your battery away from moisture as it can severely damage your battery. So take care of it in rainy season especially. DO NOT bring it near high heat which is harmful for the battery.

7 - Turn off BLUETOOTH
It happens a lot of times that after transferring a file via Bluetooth we forget to switch it off. So when you are not using it for any purpose it is wise to turn off Wi-Fi , Bluetooth and even Infrared on your mobile. These continuously draw power from your battery hence reducing its life.

Disentangle Your Hair from a Round Brush

redhair5.jpeg

Disentangle Your Hair from a Round Brush

Resist the urge to grab the nearest steak knife and slice off that entire section of strands.

The better approach:

* Don’t panic and tug. That will only make the knots tighter.

* Pin up loose strands. Gently remove as much hair as you can with your fingers, and clip up the freed strands as you go.

* Pick the locks. Take a rattail comb, knitting needle, or similar skinny stick and use the pointed tip to dislodge the remaining hair bit by bit from the bristles.

How to avoid barrel-brush entanglements:

* Never work with a section of hair that’s wider than the brush you’re using.

* Lift each section up and away from your head before you start rolling the brush underneath it. (Tangles often occur when you inadvertently involve hair that’s below the section you’re working on.)

Brighten Your Smile

see-full-size-image.jpeg

Mix your own whitener Brushing with a paste made of baking soda and water a few times a month removes superficial staining and whitens teeth by a shade or two.

“The graininess neutralizes stains and polishes teeth but isn’t abrasive enough to wear down your ename Keep teeth whiter, longer to sidestep stains when drinking red wine, chase your vino with a handful of crunchy raw vegetables. “They have a brushing action that can rub away newly setting stains.

Choose the right lipstick shade “Colors with blue undertones make teeth appear brighter,” explains Liebeskind. To figure out which of your lipsticks fit the bill, she recommends lining up three or four shades–in comparison to each other, it will be more obvious which are blue-based and which have yellow or gold undertones that bring out the yellow in teeth.

3 Ways To Prevent Identity Thieves

identity-theft1.jpgDoing any shopping this season? Crime goes up in a down economy, and credit and debit card users are often the victims.

Identity theft is on the rise. Last year 9.9 million consumers had their data stolen, a 22% jump from 2007! Here are a few ways to better protect your wallet:

Shop the big names. With more than 70 retailers and payment processors since 2006 reporting breached customer data, it’s no surprise consumers look for certified safety seals such as VeriSign and Trust Guard on retail Web sites. But researchers say not all certification programs can ensure that retailers will follow security or privacy guidelines.

Stick with big, national companies such as Amazon.com, which have stronger security because “they have the most to lose”.
Find some privacy. “Shoulder-surfing” attacks have occurred at ATMs and computers. Cell phone owners may be even more vulnerable to nosy neighbors, because they tend to type more slowly on their handhelds and use them everywhere!

Use the right card. If bogus charges were made on your credit card, you’re not liable for them while they’re being investigated. But banks can take up to two weeks before restoring debit card funds to your account. Plus victims could be liable for up to $500 in losses if they wait more than three days to report a problem or far more if they wait longer.

How To Wrap A Gift?

how-to-wrap-a-gift1.jpg

Step 1
Lay the box facedown atop gift wrap, leaving paper attached to roll. Cut paper along one side, yielding a wide enough sheet to cover both sides of the box.
Step 2
While standing on the same side of the table as the roll, pull paper tautly up and over the far end of the box. Adhere with double-sided tape, and crease paper along the box’s edge with thumb and forefinger.
Step 3
Unroll paper and bring it to meet the already wrapped end. Cut paper from roll, leaving an inch of overhang. Fold that inch under and crease along the fold. Adhere using double-sided tape.
Step 4
Now it’s time to tackle one of the open ends of the box: Push sides of paper inward, creating four 45-degree-angle flaps, then crease along flaps.
Step 5
Fold down top flap. Crease sharply along the top of box, then crease again where paper meets the bottom edge of box. Cut paper along that bottom crease. Adhere to the box.
Step 6
Fold under any excess paper on the bottom flap so that it lines up perfectly with the top of box. Apply double-sided tape to the bottom flap, then fold it over top flap and adhere.
Step 7
Repeat steps 4 through 6 on the box’s remaining open end. Finish all sides by running your pinched thumb and forefinger along edges to create sharp lines.
Step 8
Lay the wrapped box facedown on a length of ribbon (about five times as long as box). Pull ends of ribbon up and bring right end over the left. Pull widthwise so they cross.
Step 9
Turn the box over. You should have two ribbon ends of about the same length. Thread each end under the ribbon already in place.
Step 10
Double-knot the ribbon, then tie into a simple bow. Use your fingers to shape the loops.
Step 11
Pinch the ribbon ends lengthwise and cut at a 45-degree angle to create forked ends, as shown. That’s it all wrapped up!
Step 12
The finished package!!!

How to Reduce Plastic Usage

tuckerbag-photo.jpg

Our top ten ways to reduce plastic in your home and everyday life:

Tip 1: Use reusable bags everywhere!

Take reusable grocery bags with you in the car, when travelling, or shopping. Never leave home without them. Ask your store for discounts for using your own bags.

Tip 2: Switch to biodegradable.

Replace plastic bags in the home with biodegradable or compostable rubbish bags. These bags reduce a huge impact of plastic in landfills.

Tip 3: Use organic produce bags.

Use organic produce bags for fruit and vegetables rather than plastic bags. Organic bags are washable, and keep food fresh.

Tip 4: Go green with your pets.

Use biodegradable pet bags and cat try liners rather than plastic. Again replacing plastic in obvious places around the home.

Tip 5: Watch what you wear.

Replace plastic weather or rain coats with quality outdoor gear made from natural materials. Natural fibres often are warmer, breath better, and have a great comfy feel.

Tip 6: Reuse gift wrap.

Wrap gifts in reusable fabric bags rather than paper or plastic so they can be used over and over. Why use paper or plastic wrap just once, buy reusable fabric gift wrap - the gift thats keeps on giving.

Tip 7: Freshen wrapped sandwiches.

Replace plastic sandwich bags with biodegrabable or reusable sandwich wrappers. Reusable wrappers can keep sandwiches fresh for days.

Tip 8: When at lunch.

Replace plastic lunch boxes or bags with material or organic lunch bags. Again a simple but effective way to reduce plastic usage.

Tip 9: Eat with green.

Replace plastic containers, utensils and cups with biodegradable products. Avoid plastic and switch to natural utensils made from bagasse.

Tip 10: Spread the word.

Teach your children and talk to your friends about the need to reduce plastic and switch to eco-friendly products.

Travel Around the World on an Empty Wallet

1251243943ah93yp1.jpg

To travel cheap, you need to be looking for opportunities and be willing to take them. You have to be somewhat proactive and not be afraid to ask for advice, help, guidance. Ask for what you want—it’s amazing what people are willing to give.

I discovered that most people are very willing and are looking to give to the right person. You miss 100 percent of the opportunities you don’t take…”We’ve all heard the old adage that the best things in life are always free. But most people assume this rule only applies to life’s little pleasures like smelling flowers or laughing with friends. And sure, those are nice, but what about those bigger pleasures, like jetting off across the world? Can you do that for free too?

Well, if not for free, then very cheap. If you’re looking for an international experience but don’t have the cash to splurge on it, this article is for you. You don’t need thousands of dollars to get yourself on the road. In fact, all you need is a little originality, some guts and enthusiasm, and some ideas to get you started. Some of the ideas below are sensible ones that Granny would approve of. Others are a little more risqué —it’s amazing what some people will do to save a buck—but hey, since when do you take Granny’s advice anyway?

So don’t let your empty wallet stop you from taking the trip of a lifetime. Just remember: with the right attitude, the best things in life—even travelling—can come pretty cheap.

Google Phone to Hit Stores Next Year

Google Phone to Hit Stores Next Year

So what is this mysterious new product? According to reports, it is Nexus One, Google’s first attempt at a cell phone that it will sell directly to consumers, with software designed entirely in-house.

The phone is being manufactured for Google by HTC Corp., reports said. It runs Android, the operating system for mobile phones that Google developed.

But unlike the more than half-dozen Android phones made by phone manufacturers today, Google designed virtually the entire software experience behind the phone ice separately.

Google has designed virtually the entire software experience behind the phone, from the applications that run on it to the look and feel of each screen.

The direct sales move by Google could alienate wireless carriers and handset makers that offer Android phones and do not want to compete with Google, WSJ said adding that Google has repeatedly said that its goal is to have hundreds of Android phones rather than one.

Happy New Year

happynewyear21.jpg

In this moment of reflection as the New Year approaches and the calendar starts a new, as we reach out to old friends and remember those who have gone before us, as the Winter Solstice has passed and the days are getting longer so to must we inevitably, persistently, lovingly change.

Change is the only constant I can see and so too must change come to those who spend a lifetime destroying our lands, our rights, our health, our economy, our education, our liberties, our loves by their stealing, lying and killing for themselves and their selves only and alone.

Smart Holiday Shopping

Smart Holiday Shopping

Parents are crowding into stores this holiday season, searching for toys that will prompt huge smiles, cheers and hugs from their kids. But parents also need to keep in mind that there are potentially dangerous toys on store shelves. They must use judgment and common sense with every purchase.

New federal laws passed in the wake of the massive toy recalls of 2007 are kicking in, which means the toys out for this year should be among the safest ever! When shopping, parents can improve their chances of picking a safe toy by paying attention to the warning labels on toy packaging.

Ways To Bond With Your Guy During The Holidays

daddy-and-chani-edited_resized-300x215.jpgWon’t be together on the 25th? Pick a day to have a “mini Christmas.” Make a delicious dinner, open a bottle of wine, and exchange gifts.

The intimate celebration will feel even more special than if you celebrated with a room full of people. Pull him aside at a party and make a private toast. Creating a quiet moment in the middle of a crowd can help you reconnect when you’ve both been making the rounds.

Stay connected in high-tech ways. Text random, funny pictures as you go about your days separately, Skype via iPhone, or, if you’re apart for multiple days, use your Xbox to stream Netflix and watch the same movie at the same time.

Drive around just to look at Christmas lights. Not only is it pretty, but guys tend to open up more when they don’t have to make eye contact. That makes sitting side by side in the car the perfect way to trigger a meaningful talk.

Want a Flat Tummy

ff2c6386121698239324075.jpeg

‘Want a flat tummy’ />

Walk/jog for 30 minutes at least 3 times per week to boost your metabolism in order to burn that fat. Eat a small handful of almonds (at least 6) every morning. Almonds are one of the healthiest snacks you can eat and the protein is good for burning fat.

Purchase a Pilates DVD and do the exercises at least 2-3 times per week. Add fiber to your diet and cut down your intake of the bad carbs. Foods such as white bread, pastas, potatoes, and white rice should be limited. Eat brown rice and whole wheat bread instead. To get that needed fiber increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables (especially the leafy green ones).

Drink skim milk instead of whole milk. Keep your dairy intake at a minimum because these products often cause bloating and gas. Perform proper crunches at least 3 times a week to train your abs. Avoid sit-ups because they really do very little to firm your stomach. Sit-ups work your hip flexors more than anything else.

Drink plenty of water. You should be drinking 6 to 8 glasses per day. Not only will it help fill you up so you eat less, but it aids in digestion. Stop eating within 3 hours of bedtime. If you have to munch on something, eat a small portion of vegetables or fruit.

Not eating late can make a huge difference. Eat smaller meals more often instead of 2-3 big meals per day to keep from having that bloated look and feeling. Eating more meals actually kicks up your metabolism.

Herbs & Spices That Warm You UP!

splitpeapotato-225x300.jpg

/>When that cold weather strikes a chilling blow, it makes sense to consume healthy, warming, concentrated foods. Dark orange vegetables such as sweet potatoes, winter squash, and carrots provide immune nourishing beta carotene and the warmth of the orange ray. Grounding roots such as onions, rutabagas

and turnips can help one better acclimate to the seasons. Other warming foods include arugula, mustard greens, and watercress. Nuts, seeds, and their butters make excellent warming and insulating snacks. There are many spices that can warm us up in a jiffy! Culinary herbs that help us feel warmer and improve circulation include:

# Black pepper- It has antiseptic, and antioxidant properties.
# Cardamom- It is an expectorant, thus helping to open the respiratory passages.
# Cayenne- It is rich in vitamin C, and helps relieve chills, coughs and congestion. Sprinkling a bit of cayenne pepper between one’s shoes and socks can help warm the feet when needing to be outdoors.
# Cinnamon- It helps dry dampness in the body and warms people that are always cold and suffering from poor circulation. Cinnamon is antiseptic and an excellent digestive tonic.

# Garlic- It helps one be more resistant to infection. Garlic is a potent vasodilator and improves circulation by helping to prevent the blood from clumping together.
# Ginger- It is a natural antioxidant and antiseptic. It improves circulation to all parts of the body. Ginger baths are warming, muscle relaxing and cold and flu relieving and can be made by simmering eight ounces of ginger into a half gallon of water, simmering at a low boil for twenty minutes, then straining into the bathtub.

# Horseradish-It is high in vitamin C, and aids in the digestion of fatty foods. Horseradish is antiseptic and a strong decongestant; helping to open congested respiratory passages.

How to Run Safely

run-safely-hot-weather-200x2002.jpg

With care, jogging and running can be safe and enjoyable. The main rules are familiar: Start slowly, build up gradually, alternate harder and easier work outs, and listen to your body. Here are a few additional tips:

1 - Wear good shoes. Buy shoes specifically designed for running, not walking. Change your shoes every 300 to 400 miles; even if they don’t look worn, they will have lost crucial cushioning and support.

2 - Don’t run on uneven or slanted surfaces. Find the most forgiving surfaces available; asphalt is softer than concrete, packed dirt or grass better still.

3 - Don’t increase your distance by more than 10% a week even if you feel terrific.

4 - Vary your pace.

5 - Always warm up with stretching exercises before you start out, then walk and jog before you run. Don’t try to sustain a rapid pace; instead, slow down and coast from time to time. And always slow down to a walk at the end of your run.

6 - Be careful on hills. Going up hills requires lots of extra effort; expect to slow down and lean into the hill. Don’t try to sprint down; to avoid injury, shorten your stride and hold back. Remember the old runner’s motto: Uphills train, downhills maim.

7 - Unless you are entered in a race, don’t race. And even in a race, remember there is always someone faster (also smarter, richer, thinner, and better looking; that’s life). Know your limits and stay within them to avoid injury. As usual, Shakespeare got it right, “Too swift arrive as tardy as too slow” (Romeo and Juliet).

8 - Follow simple rules for safety, hydration and weather.

9 - Do extra stretching for the muscles and tendons of your legs, especially your hamstrings, calves, and the others at the back of your legs. Running makes these muscles strong, but also tight.

10 - Don’t run through pain.

Even with precautions, many runners develop ammation, strains and sprains that produce aches and pains in tendons, muscles or ligaments. Most are mild will resolve with time and treatment. But the sooner you take care of running woes, the sooner you’ll be back on the road, which helps your heart and metabolism without harming your joints.

How to Run

female-runner2.jpg

1. Wear spandex shorts under your regular running shorts so you don’t chafe “down there.”

2. Cotton socks will only lead to blisters; invest in socks designed for running.

3. Ladies, do not skimp on a bra. Even if it costs more than your shoes it’s still a bargain.

4. Buy running clothes you look good in and that will motivate you to run.

5. Buy new running clothes at the end of the season when stores dump the old season’s line. Think clearance!

6. Use Vaseline or BodyGlide wherever things rub and your TOES!!! They will help prevent blisters and chafing (guys don’t forget the nipples).
7. Do not increase your mileage more than 10 percent per week.

8. Guys: Band-Aids before the long runs. Your nipples will thank you in the shower afterwards.

9. Do not run two hard days back-to-back.

10. Ice aches and pains immediately.

11. Pay attention to your form. Try to run lightly to minimize impact that could lead to injury.

12. Cut your Training by at least 30 percent to 50 percent every 4th or 5th week for recovery.

13. Make sure you cut your toenails short enough so they don’t jam into your Shoes!

Winter Veggies

Winter Veggies

It’s easy to get stuck in a cooking and using the same ingredients and the same recipes again and again. It’s time for a little change! If you shop at your local farmers’ market, you have a great opportunity to try something new.

Most people think farmer’s markets are only for summer, but there are many that are open year round and offer great winter produce. Buy some fresh, seasonal produce and discover delicious new flavors.

Here, our some picks for wonderful winter vegetables, complete with recipes you can make tonight. Winter squash comes in many shapes and sizes, including acorn, butternut, and spaghetti. This type of squash has a thicker rind than summer squash, which makes them easier to store for longer periods of time. Store them in a cool, dry place, but not in the fridge because this can cause them to rot more quickly. Squash is delicious roasted on its own, but these recipes offer new ways to use this versatile veggie.-

Make Your Arms Look Sexy and Toned!

298x232-tone_your_arms-298x232_tone_your_arms.jpg

Once you embrace the thought that strengthening your arm muscles will make them look toned and sexy rather than chunky and unfeminine, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to get results.

Arms are one of those body parts that respond quickly to training because they’re typically under-worked in everyday life compared to say, your legs. Do this arm routine 2 to 3 times a week with at least one day of rest in between. All you’ll need is an exercise band or tube that creates enough resistance, or force, to challenge you within 8 to 15 reps plus a sturdy chair so you can do this routine anywhere.

Start with one set of 8 to 15 reps of each exercise; when you can do 15 reps easily, either switch to a heavier band, up it to two sets per exercise or graduate to the more challenging version of the move. When you’re ready to try something new, consider switching to dumbbells. The same movements feel completely different when you’re pumping iron versus pumping rubber.
